Work as it's own Reward
Maintaining CI's pristine look is a constant job, but so important to creating a good visitor experience. With a large site with small staff this is one of the most demanding physically volunteer positions we require.
It's also the one with the least amount of 'fame' attached. These behind the scenes volunteers may not get as much notice from a Visitor who enjoys the site, but it's their sweat and effort that made the enjoyment possible
Weeding, Watering, and Repeat
Our Historic Garden and various nature areas require constant care throughout the year. While the garden is tending "historically' it can still use some extra help. As such Garden volunteers are great assets throughout the seasons in assisting in it's maintenance. Our garden does give an incredible yield of herbs and produce, and our programming only requires so much, so volunteers who give, also receive (in surplus Turnips and Sage!)
Mowers and Machines
Historic maintenance only extends so far, and for most of CI's ground we use Mowers, Leaf blowers and chainsaws. Though volunteers in this department do require additional training in order to use the equipment safely, we appreciate the extra muscle!
